KeymasterMembers mentioned Shazam as a great little app to inform you what the music playing in the background is, that you can’t identify.
David Harrison
KeymasterWaze – members mentioned this app as a neat way of navigating around a place and avoiding traffic. I haven’t used it in while and I should really give it a go.

KeymasterA bit more info. on using the bus pass as a concessionary card.
A member of the Photography Group yesterday attempted to use the card for a trip to Newport, thinking it was valid for the whole of Wales. It is not. Just the Cardiff & Valleys lines and some specific services, eg Heart of Wales line, where you can even travel for free in winter.

KeymasterI’ve added another post to this thread, comparing my experience of using the app on my phone, to using the ticketing machine. I obviously should have read Ted’s post again, on the station, before trying to use the machine, but one doesn’t think to open a blog on a station, does one? This is what I experienced … I can’t believe is unique.
A couple of years ago, I found the on-station ticket machines difficult to use, as I was unsure when I should apply a concession card. So, I started using the app on the phone, and generally have found it good as it integrates planning with purchase and displays different costs with different trains and railcards. All good information to help to make decisions and purchases.
Yesterday, I just missed a train, so I thought I’d try the new machine at the station to see if it was better. It was. Much clearer. But … where do I provide the info on my concession card?
It is in the logical place, for the use case, ie at the purchase screen, but what is required is an info. box on the start-up screen, or something on the box itself to advise you of that. With old machine thinking in my head I kept on going backwards and forwards through screens thinking I’d forgotten to add my railcard. A simple addition in the instructions on how to use the system would obviate the problem.

KeymasterAs I understand it, ITV X will not work on older (no idea of how old, and probably device dependent) devices. If yours hasn’t upgraded, it could be it won’t! It could be then, that on those devices, neither ITV Hub, or Britbox – which is definitely incorporated into ITV X and on notice to be discontinued – that customers will lose these services.

KeymasterThanks Ted, the update on the eligibility time is useful, and much easier to work with. It’s much better to know what time you have to get to the origin station than work out when it’s going to arrive at the destination.
We have electronic Senior Railcards, so neither the TfW Bus Pass card, nor the Valley Lines cards apply. However, I would encourage folk to look at the TfW app. I find that buying the tickets electronically before I leave home much less stressful than trying to do it on the platform, perhaps with someone either ahead or behind me. Carrying the ticket on my phone I feel quite a “switched-on” OAP, and I smile inwardly at those with paper tickets.
PS Can I put a plug in for the Cardiff Bus app which is very, very good too!

KeymasterThanks Margaret, that’s very helpful snd useful. I trust Tony has worked out now how he intends to play it. I have no experience of using the service, and am unlikely to now that I have an Epson Tank system.

KeymasterGreat story, beautifully told. Thanks for sharing. I’ve done similar stories for family members, and when I have the time intend to devote myself to writing similar social history narratives that will make apparent what life was like for my ancestors, very ordinary people.

KeymasterHi Phil,
I’ve added the link to your screenshot, and done a couple of little formatting changes. The way you insert an image is to click on the icon on the extreme right of the menu ; click on the camera, and then navigate to where the image should be on on your hard disk, viz.

PS I’m sorry you’re struggling with Thoughtgrazing posts and Forums. One day, when we can meet again in person, I’ll run through is all again. Meanwhile, I’ll revisit the Help documentation to see if it can be improved. Thanks.

KeymasterSo my suggestion about using a different Internet browser irrelevant.
However I have a suggestion as to an alternative way of accessing your mail.
It’s not too difficult to either install an email client app on your laptop – Thunderbird was mentioned last time and point the Inbox at your BTinternet mail server. I would suggest using IMAP protocols. Alternatively, if you have a Google account add your BTinternet account to it. Both should bd a workaround of your annoying new “feature”.
David Harrison
KeymasterI do love unrequested “features” that are supposed to improve the users’ experience.

KeymasterHowever for my Photo Books these days, I use Blurb, which is integrated into my photo editing software – Adobe Lightroom. There are too many options available in the package to list them, but I’ll provide a link to a page on my Photo Blog, where you can view them …

KeymasterI’ve used Snapfish in the past. I was reasonably happy with the results but I moved on to Blurb, which I’ll say more about later.
They do have a Spring offer on at the moment, which you might be able to pick-up from the attachment below.

KeymasterThe article on your BT News page refers to a hack of Facebook that happened a couple of years ago. Why this has re-appeared is that this time the contents have been made freely available, whereas before the information had been only made available to “fellow hackers” for a fee!!!
I’m sorry but I can’t explain why you are getting the message in the above attachment.
Are you getting the popup message with every mail message?
David Harrison
KeymasterThat’s bad news indeed David. Really sorry to hear about it. So it was indeed malware as we thought.
I hope you didn’t lose anything too important for your machine. Hopefully, a backup? Or perhaps Mr FixIT was able to do that before he rebuilt the machine.
What a pain in the neck!
