Well … I have a couple of Christmas Cacti in my office, so I look forward to updates the progress of yours! Perhaps you could share the instructions?

Both these posts are really interesting and I can see we now have two items to discuss when the group reconvenes. Your Composers “sapp” and this Magpie rhyme book – both using AI.

    Thanks for sharing.

That’s both fascinating and disturbing Iain. My wife alerted me yesterday to a different and marginally connected item. Old phones are now considered “vintage” and there’s a market for them on car boots, and eBay! Who’d have thought – I’m possibly sitting on a mini goldmine!

Do you know, that’s one of the most useful applications of ChatGPT I’ve heard of. I can see me using it for that when I finally get round to reading the final part of Hilary Mantel’s trilogy on Thomas Cromwell, which has been sitting on my shelf for nearly two years (at least). It’s been reported that she didn’t want to finish the book because she knew the ending. That could be why I’ve put off reading it as well.

That was brilliant. Absolutely fantastic. How did/could he manage to keep that going and not miss a beat. I’ll be sharing it with my family – that’s for sure. Apparently 10 years ago they didn’t know about toothbrush hackers 🤣🤣🤣

Well thanks for that Phil. We can add to the list of helpful tools with this one to open jars without electricity – the JarKey

… absolutely works like a dream by breaking the vacuum in the jar created when the bottling was done, and then we have an electric (battery) can opener that works like a dream for anyone whose hands/wrists are a little bit challenged – the Culinare C50600 One Touch Electronic Tin Opener, White, Plastic/Stainless Steel, Automatic Can Opener

… but there are other similar devices on Amazon.

Thanks Phil, I like the idea of a putty substance to clean your keyboard.

I bought a kit from Sephia – http://www.sephia.co.uk just recently which has liquid, brushes and cloths to do the screens and keyboards. Got it from Amazon.

I’m about to trial using Halide for the iPhone, which seems a quite sophisticated but easy to use camera app, which turns your phone into a digital SLR. It has a relatively low-cost annual subscription, or a one-off purchase option with lifetime updates. I’ll let you know how it goes.

A new one, recommended by my daughter – City Mapper; it is both a website – https://citymapper.com/ – or from that URL, you can download an app for both iOS and Android. It has coverage for a lot of US and European cities (including Cardiff) – https://citymapper.com/cities – and navigates you around selecting the best route from the filters you apply, and the transport mode you want to use.

It even tells you where you can pick-up  a hire bike and how many it thinks there should be there.

    Try it!

A website Ian Appadurai recommends, and Jonathan Guest has tried out, is Roam Around. It’s based on ChatGPT – something we ought to look at soon.

Side-by-side was recommended by Ted Richards as a neat way of looking at maps archived at the National Library of Scotland. It’s not an app, but a very useful reference.

Weather & Radar app was mentioned by members. There’s also this one available of the Apple App Store.

Ted Richards also uses a link to this website for Weather and Radar information.

RealTimeTrains was mentioned as a good journey tracker, but it’s not an app as far as I can see.

The Stagecoach app (Google) (Apple) and the Cardiff Bus app were also used by members.
