Margaret reported that having upgraded her ISP and obtained a new router that her HP printer which was connected wirelessly to the router had lost several of its facilities including the ability to print in duplex. This is how she reported the problem …

I spent some time yesterday going through the links you kindly sent. It seems to be a not uncommon prob after transferring to a new router. I had already done much of what is suggested, but I can see some things I might try. Moving the printer, disconnecting and reconnecting all devices, resetting the router amongst them.

State of play is that, as before, it does print, but not in colour and not double sided (only manually and then it doesn’t like it) but I am leaving it all for a few days. a) for my sanity and time factor – I have spent way too much time and frustration on it of late and b) following router installation instructions I am leaving it fully connected and undisturbed until after what they call the stabilisation period while speeds etc are monitored and adjusted.

That time when I am advised to leave well alone is up at the beginning of next week when I will see if the printer has by chance come to life or when it is safe to disconnect various things.

I will let you know if and when it works, otherwise Im still trying.

Here’s how she reported she’d solved the problem …

Got my printer working as it always has done! So pleased.

After trying everything and messing about I left things alone for a while during the new routers so called stabilisation period. Today I tried some more options, as found on google, without success. Although I had removed and reinstalled the printer a few times, now I decided to strip out all printer files from all drives, then turned everything off, restarted and completely set up the printer as from the box. Seemed to work. The printer had continued to operate but only at a basic level, its features had disappeared. Clearly the router set up had wiped out its settings. Got there in the end by trial and error.

      Brilliant. Good detective work Margaret.
