I refuse to fly economy, AKA the cattle car. While it’s not as unpleasant as the C-46 that flew me to basic training in ’68 it’s close. From Chicago to Heathrow I usually take AA’s next notch up, premium economy, but it adds 1000 USD. A roomy seat and great chow but expensive. I discovered a reasonably priced class exists between cattle car and premium economy called main cabin extra. It’s not well known and has only a handful of seats. Stepping onto the C-46 was an introduction to misery. The crew chief, a SERGEANT, made it clear it was his responsibility to clean the loo. He threatened bodily harm to the poor soul that made him do so. Especially barf. Which was like waving a red flag at some seriously hung over dudes. Military pilots fly through and the aged aircraft was unable to fly over bad weather so it was a bumpy ride. The cattle car don’t suck quite as bad but I’m never again flying either economy or Air Force. If you’re wondering … knowing what was coming I avoided alcohol the night before.

On a forum such as this, I was hoping you would tell us how many back up computer systems AA deployed in case of ILS failure. Disappointed!
